BEST SOUTHWEST BOOKFEST
2011
Welcome to the Best Southwest Bookfest - an organization focusing on bringing authors, writers and speakers to Sourthwest Dallas County to celebrate the written and spoken word. In mid 2003, librarians from the public libraries in Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, Lancaster, and the University of North Texas at Dallas Library came together to begin planning for the first Best Southwest Bookfest. The first Bookfest was held on March 26-27, 2004 at UNT Dallas. Fifteen authors and illustrators appeared at the first Fest including Paula LaRocque, Carlton Stowers, Jane Roberts Wood, Nina Foxx, Francis Ray and illustrator, Betsy Lewin. Bookfest planners received favorable comments about the 2004 event and that gave them the courage to make this an annual event.
